An exceptional early Azzedine Alaïa Paris knit from the designer’s seminal early-1990s period, circa 1991.
These sculptural knit leggings feature Alaïa’s iconic body-contouring viscose knit construction, engineered to shape and support the body without the need for closures. The graphic butterfly jacquard motif appears throughout in saturated tones of red, cobalt, and golden yellow against a black ground — a rare example of Alaïa’s early experimentation with bold knit graphics prior to his later minimalist bodycon collections.
The dense stretch knit creates a smoothing, second-skin fit that is both structured and comfortable, a technique that made Alaïa one of the most important designers of the late 20th century. Pieces from this early Paris production period are increasingly collectible and rarely surface outside major vintage archives.
