An exceptionally rare museum-worthy ensemble from Chanel’s Fall/Winter 1988 collection, this iconic three-piece set features the celebrated “Coco” novelty print famously worn by Inès de la Fressange in Chanel’s 1988 advertising campaign. Designed during Karl Lagerfeld’s transformative era at Chanel, the collection juxtaposed classic black-and-white check bouclé with whimsical graphic motifs inspired by the world of Gabrielle Chanel, including perfume bottles, sketches, handwritten notes, notebooks, and interlocking CC logos.
The fully reversible jacket showcases Chanel’s masterful play on contrast, offering classic black-and-white check on one side and the vibrant archival “Coco” print on the other. The coordinating blouse echoes the signature print, while the matching skirt grounds the ensemble in timeless Chanel tailoring. Together, the set represents one of the most recognizable and highly collectible Chanel novelty prints of the late 1980s.
Collector’s Note:
This ensemble is documented in Chanel’s Fall/Winter 1988 advertising campaign starring Inès de la Fressange and is considered one of the house’s most recognizable novelty-print designs from the Karl Lagerfeld era.
